Silverado Window Regulator

Well the driver side power window on my '02 crapped out again. This time it's not under warranty so I'm gonna fix it myself. The cable broke on the bottom side of the pulley. Does this mean I have to replace the whole regulator? Seems like a lot to buy when only the cable broke. I see them for sale with motors. That's even more than I need but is that the right way to buy 'em? Finally, I don't think I need OEM replacement considering this is the second one to fail on a truck with only 50k on it. I see a lot of you guys recommend Rockauto. Is that the place to go?

That's the part that I worry about. Like when I had to replace the rotors. I sure didn't want to use the same crap they put on it originally. You know, the ones that rusted out in a year which took the pads out, so I went to a high quality after-market. I'm thinkin the regulators must be junque too since they're failing on a regular basis.

Just replaced my driver's side window regulator at a little over 50K miles in my '02 2500HD. It's a piece of cake to do in about 30 minutes. I got the whole assembly, motor and rails, from NAPA. It was grinding like the cables were fraying, but for a few bucks more I figured I'd just replace the whole mess to avoid issues down the road, like when it is freezing out and the window suddenly doesn't want to work right at the drive through and won't go back up. You know how Murphy likes to visit!!!

NAPA, yeah. I was so programmed to buy on line and waiting I didn't even think of them. Called the local guy and 20 minutes later it was in my grubby little paws. Now to install.

Thanks guys!

They might ask for your resale number, but then again they might not. :) Do you know anyone that has an account with them? Just tell them to put it on a ticket for (insert buddies shop name here) and you'll pay cash for it. That will work too. Lots of places will do price matching also. It never hurts to ask.

I know, I have been told that I'm a professional cheap skate!

Cheap is good. Recently a couple of us old farts were talking about how back in the day, when credit cards and big box stores were taking over the way we buy crap, it was common practice for us hagglers to ask for at least a cash discount. I sometimes forget it's still a great way to shop in the Mom and Pop joints. Now, as a model maker for a microphone company, whenever I buy stuff from companies that carry our products, I ask for a Industry Accommodation Price. Never fails.
