1993 Grand Voyager

I've got a 1993 Grand Voyager that has the 3.3L motor with 110,000miles. For quite some time now when you reach about 40mph, when the tranny shifts into 4th gear there is a horrible vibration, once you go above 40 it goes away. Anyone else have/had this situation?

If you search this and other groups you will see discussion on this (Torque Converter Shudder). My guess is it needs a tranny flush and fill and be sure to use ATF +3 fluid ONLY.

change filter too, OEM filter. probably need the Transmission Control Module TCM or transmission's computer to be reprogrammed. it's a flash or EEPROM update, assuming yours has not been done and can be done. this is the famous or notorious 37 mph shudder from the electronically controlled clutch upshifting the gears too slowly and is the start of the torque converter to self-destruct owing to extra effort. the software upgrade makes the upshifting much more smooth by going speeding up the upshifting.

do i sound like a gear head? i am not. i am guessing your problem based on the

4-speed electronic transmission known as the A604/41TE

ask around at a dealer. this is tricky stuff on 1993 vans and most shops won't have the special cables needed or won't want to be bothered. i am guessing. but you will want the latest software and those who know how to reprogram the computer. i did not have much luck with the local mechanics. found a really good dealer by asking around and they knew exactly what to do and did it extremely well and inexpensively.
