1995 Cirrus Engine Control Unit replacement

I managed to verify that the ECU on my '95 Cirrus (2.5L V6) was bad. I found a guaranteed salvage part for $145 since the dealer wanted $700 for just the ECU.

Once installed all of the codes and run problems of the car disappeared and I was happy. Then after I closed up the car and went in to clean up my wife went out to get something and when she touched the door the car starting honking like crazy. I removed the battery connection and it stopped; it did the same thing again when reconnected.

I didn't have an alarm system before. Have I left something out of the sequence in the replacement of the ECU? like programming? If so, can I manage it somehow or do I need to get someone to do something? Who can normally do this for me or what kind of tool will I need to do it myself?

Regards.

Never install a used PCM or any other kind of module unless it is the same part number, That PCM was for a vehicle that had an alarm equipped. These computers communicate with other modules over the bus and learn what others have. you may have made your problem worse. There is now a possibility that you need a BCM and the correct PCM for that vehicle.

OK. I'll verify the numbers. I thought I had matched them. A local mechanic tells me that I need the computer "flashed". I know what that means when I work on my laptop or desktop computers. Is that even within my reach? does it require a special tool?

But beyond that, if I did mess up the BCM, what symptoms should I be watching for?

Thanks.

Flashing wont take care of that problem, install the correct module for the application you have,
