We have changed the thermostat and it is still overheating. We took i
to the dealership and they put it on the computer and told us it showe
no problems. Advised us that we probably got a bad thermostat or put i
in backwards. We got another thermostat and put it in, and are stil
having the same problem. The fans are working, the tank is full o
coolant, and we cannot find the problem. Any suggestions

How many miles?
Is it losing coolant?
Did you follow the procedure for purging air out of the system
when you put the thermostat in?
Remember that if the system cannot hold pressure the coolant
will boil - boiling coolant is not very efficient at carrying away heat.
If it is leaking coolant it isn't going to be holding pressure.

Re: 2004 300M overheating problem
In addition to what Ted said, there were some instances reported on the
300M Club of two things (not both on any one vehicle):
(1) Bad water pump impeller.
(2) Some casting debris or slag left in the coolant passages blocking
coolant flow.
I don't recall if any of these instances were on 04's or not, but I
would advise a search on their forums
(http://300mclub.org/forums/index.php?sid=426876de8fc01e7e267dc347d2afee34 ),
as well as posting your situation and seeing if anyone with first-hand
knowledge of these problems can provide further info.
As motivation to the dealer to find and resolve the problem, I would
hint at invoking the lemon law if your state has one - you're still
under warranty, right?
Good luck!!

Re: 2004 300M overheating problem
Is it really overheating, or is it just that the dash gauge shows
overheating? Have you verified the actual engine temperature with a
different gauge? It could be a bad gauge sending unit.
If it really is overheating, have you thorougly bled all the air out of
the system? Does the heater blow hot air if you turn the heater on full
blast? It could be entrapped air, or a bad water pump.
Re: 2004 300M overheating problem
I just had my 04 300 special in the shop for overheating. They went
through all the same stuff youve been through and it wasnt fixed. They
ended up pulling the head and there was sand and metal shavings
clogging it up. They told me it was a common thing from the factory
defect on the 3.5. After they did that and replaced the head gasket, my
over heating problems were fixed.
