96 ford explorer blower won't stop after hitting "off" button

I have a Ford Explorer 1996 eddie bauer edition with automatic temperature control. The heat and the A/c both work fine. When on, the air will go to the floor, panel, and defroster. Once you hit the off button however, the blower continues to blow air only out of the defroster. The air does not stop blowing until you turn the key and shut off the car. Anyone have solutions to this problem?

Thank you,

Rob

Do the fan speeds work normally? Does the problem occur no matter what the speed or on high speed only?

Never seen the automatic temp control, but the switch (button) could be dirty.

The fan speed can't be controlled because the blower is just running on high. There is an adjustment on the automatic temp control which is a wheel that can move up for high or down for low speed. Moving this button has no effect on the fan speed as it should when in working order. The blower just blows at high speed when it's on and the same speed out the defroster when the off button is hit on the automatic control pad (the key must be removed from the on position to stop the blower.

The problem occurs the second the car is on until the key is turned from the off position.

hope this helps

The EVTM doesn't show a high blower relay for your car so I would suspect either a shorted fan speed controller or a wiring short between the blower motor and the speed controller. When diagnosing this problem, it's important to remember that the blower motor is ground side switched.

I'm pretty sure there is a relay that send power directly to the fan in high mode. It's probably stuck.

Did you figure out what it was? Ive tried replacing blower, resistor, relay, fuses. Last option is eatc module itself
