Mine is a Bug Deflector II bought from AutoZone. It fits well and stays tight without the bolts loosening up under the hood. It looks good but I still have a lot of dead bugs on the windshield!

same here! bought the same thing from the same place.... it feels a bit flimsy if you ask me... I see it bend under high speeds with the wind forced upon it.

However, my boss with an '02 Expedition, she bought a nice bug/rock deflector from an online web site, and it's in an image of the US Flag... quite nice! But it's rock solid, doesn't bend at all, and feels far more sturdy. I think it'd do a better job at creating the upward wind force while driving fast. I do notice a lot less bugs on her windshield than me... we drive about the same distance to work every day.

But anyway, I don't have any rock chips on my hood, and I have a few rock chips on my windshield... so at least I think it's protecting my hood from these things.

I got the cheapest one from JC Whitney that mounted, without tape, to existing holes with supplied fasteners. I recall it was less than $40 (happy to dig the specific info out of my file tonight at home if you like). It's been firm, no problems for 2 years now (my expl. is a

2000). Looks good, too. However, other than for looks and to protect your hood edge from chips, they don't do anything...certainly do not lessen the dead bugs on the windshield.

I don't see any reason to spend a lot on this item (my opinion is different on the window things, though...I had cheapie tape-mounted ones from WalMart clearance rack on my 1993 Explorer...when they rattled and fell off, it was hell to clean off the tape residue...this time around I got the weatherflectors that mount in the window channel; they are fantastic and worth the extra $$).

I bought the Ford bug deflector from

formatting link
It uses attaches four holes under the hood using plastic quick insert fasteners, and clamps at the edges over supplied vinyl protective material. Removal for car washing purposes takes about 30 seconds with a mini phillips screwdriver.

PAst experience with "bug deflectors" shows me that they do deflect bugs & other debris from the part of the hood they cover. But I've yet to see any that will deflect these things from the windshield.

Especially the big juicy bugs that splat on the windshield after it is cleaned. (lol)
