Jaguar E-type 4.2 but what series?

Guys,

I recently found a Jaguar e-type that I would like to buy ... but what series is it?

I do not want to contact the owner before knowing exactly what is it and being able to make a reasonable offer.

Here are the pictures, not very good but should be enough. My guess is that it is the 4.2 Series 2 OR 1.5 but I am not sure... three windshield wipers, no cover on the headlights but quite small front "mouth", latches for the hood are inside... btw, can the hood be removed to make a convertible?

If you copy the photo of the trunk to your desk top and open the image and enlarge it just as I did, you will clearly see that the bottom badge is

4.2. I hope you have a VERY large bank account or a trust fund because the cars are total pieces of crap. ( I used to sell theme for Koeppel back in the late 60's while I was in collage) Avoid this car like it was anthrax.

Do you really think you should be considering this? It *IS* a convertable, with a removable hard top.

It looks to me to be a series 1.5 OTS (convertible) probably circa

1967ish, although it could be a series 1 that somebody lost the headlight covers for. Your picture of the front isn't clear enough to determine for sure. The top (hood) you see is removable and was an optional accessory.

I suspect it will be quite expensive to purchase, but good luck!

As for the poster who doesn't like them... to each his taste. Parts are readily available and most aren't any more pricey than comparable parts for current vehicles.

It's a Series 1, or 1.5. You can't tell from the outside whether it is 1 or 1.5. Series 1.5 cars were only made in 1968. They have some Series 2 features such as tilting seat backs, and rocker switches, but have the Series 1 exterior - parking lights above the bumper is one clue.

If you can't recognize that as a removable hardtop, you have no business with a car like that. The pictures are crap but it looks like a 1.5. Looks like little eyebrows over the open head lights.
