Monster Tyre Ware on XJ40 tyres, I wonder any ideas?!!?

Hey Jaguar lovers and experts, I got a problem!!! , Need to see what the feeling is on this one.;o)

I was cleaning my wheels today, things were going great!! Just explaining to a latent Jagaur man what he needs to know to maybe go get a cracker. ;o) Spread the JOY!!!

Then as i got down and dirty I noticed, I had a serous case of shoulder ware on my front tyres!!!!!! Oh man oh man!!! I always make sure my tyes are at the right pressure and was so down ;o(...thinking I had failed in my mission!!. I thundered down to my Tyre retailer for a chat.

They said it was not caused by over or under inflation. But more likely due to some kind of mechanical problem . Any ideas what these mechanical problems could be .So I can investigate. And get this fixed at best price!!! Thanx

Tom

PS: I looked at jag-lovers, not clues!!

YESSSS! And, as any veteran autocrosser like me will tell you, you don't hardly *need* that part on the street, anyway! Swap 'em front-to-rear and *drive*!

Tom,

The absolute golden rule if you wish to get optimum tyre wear, handling & ride is to get the wheels aligned regularly. Every 6 months until you can gauge how long the wheels will stay aligned.

This is not quite as simple as it is stated because first you will have to ask around to find a reliable workshop that specialises in wheel alignment. Always keep the records of your alignment & accept recommended deviations from the Manufacturers spec which your local Jag dealer, club, or alignment shop, recommends to suit local conditions.

Next control tyre pressure. Keep a tyre gauge in the glove pocket & check weekly. I recommend you start with the manufacturers recommended inflation increased by 10%

You need to start with tyres evenly worn, do not try to proceed if wear is uneven as at the moment. Tyre rotation is worthwhile to help even wear until you discover the combination of pressure & alignment that best suite your vehicle in your conditions.
