Late CJ5 Hard top fit an early Willys CJ5?

I have a chance to buy a Hard top from a 1978 CJ5. Will it fit on an early Willy's CJ5? (1953 though my CJ has the curved fenders and am not 100% sure its a '53)

Thanks in advance Marty

So the body is narrower? Or is it the Windshield frame or? Thanks, such a good deal too! Marty

All you need Marty is the windshield from a later model, the body tub is pretty much the same, I have a soft top and windshield frame from a 76 or newer on my 74 model CJ5, it all fitted fine, you will need new hinges to go with the later model windshield frame.

I'm confused. The windshield frame is the same width as the body is it not?

NO. The CJ5 got wider in 1976.

I read that right after I hit the send button. I don't think the top from a post '76 will fit the '65 that the original poster asked about.

Its a 1953 CJ5. If the windshield is the only problem then I might find a complete windshield frame assembly as mine is missing all the wiper hardware etc....though I do have a good frame and glass....the top with doors has been offered to me for $200

Personally, I think the the post-'76 top will not fit your '53. If the seller is even remotely near your home, you should either drive or trailer your Jeep to his house, and buy the top only if it fits. There is a lot of mix-n-match that takes place on a Jeep, and this one might work and it might not. Does your '53 even have hinges for the doors? I think the door openings are significantly different between '53 and '78. I could be wrong, but I would not encourage you to buy this top unless you can determine if it fits before you start writing the check.
