A-Frame ball joint question

After spending the day trying to change the 'A' Frame ball joint on my 90 and finally winning after resorting to a 10 tonne hydraulic press and an oxyacetylene torch I'm almost there. Now the main reason for replacing the balljoint was since fitting a disc brake rear axle the balljoint gator had no flange on the new axle to hook over so all the grease fell out, to combat this I have fitted a new type sealed balljoint unit which is now in place. The old balljoint after passing through the axle bracket used a washer and a castellated nut to fix it in position, the new one has a much larger castellated nut but no replacement washer (for the larger diameter thread) was supplied in the kit, should there be one or will it be ok without? I have a new parts manual on order but would be very grateful if someone could check this for me (it is same for Disco Series 1 and Defender [post 1996] models I believe) as I would like to get this torqued up asap and back on the road. Many thanks, Fergus
