A Trim Question

Aug 06, 2003 4 Replies

Anybody tell me how to get off the handle for the wind-down windows on a

90 - and, ideally, how to put it back on again!!

I want to replace the door bolts and need the trim off to get at the nuts - it is all of 5 years old and so they are rusting - well what do you expect on a vehicle which only cost 25 grand new. And whilst I'm at it I can replace the broken lead to the door mounted speaker. All this new fangled technology. Why couldn't they stick to sliding windows and speakers screwed up to the roof.

I'm sure you may find someone with a series who'd like to swap doors. Then again you have to 'degunge' the series window channels regularly as well...

Another way to try - which worked brilliantly on my Passat and Vauxhall Astras some while ago - is to slide a length of scrim under the handle (a bit in the style of towelling the back of one's neck dry), and snag it in the clip with a sharpish tug. If you're lucky, you can pull the clip off.

May not work with these clips though...

Have been changed, but under warranty. One of the benefits of buying a limited edition - the bolts last nearly six months b4 rusting!!
