engine number

anybody know where/if you can check engine numbers to see what vehicle they were originally from? richard

If it's a Land Rover engine, 'The Specialist' web site lists engine number prefixes for all LR engines fitted to the 90/110, as well as almost all the Rover V8s (including SD1/P6 etc).

If it's a L/R engine, phone Landrover at Solihull (sorry, you'll have to phone directory enquiries for the number) and ask for the traceability department. They hold all build details post 1995-ish, and will look up what you want. Earlier than this, you will need to phone Gaydon Heritage Motor centre, who keep all the older details. I've always found both to be more than helpful. All the best,
