Freelander in the house...

... well not literally....its on the drive.

The good lady wife is now the proud owner of a Freelander 05 TD4, having looked for a D2 and been unhappy with those available she has looked in to the light and the Freelander actually ticked all the boxes and actually feels like it has more elbow room then the D2 (due to lack of the wide centre console). Those D2s we did try felt like a step back in time having had a D1 ES that was mint.. they had alot to live up to.

She's unlikely to need low range so no issues there.. If she does she will no doubt snaffle the FFRR or 110.

Have to say its a great motor, and more economical than the outgoing Laguna. It does feel a little small for me to drive mind and I'm only 5 ft 10.. feels like the seat could do with being lowered an inch or two. That said it is manageable and I won't be using it as a daily driver, and as the good lady is on the short side again its just the ticket for her.

Only other thing we've noted, The boot is quickly filled with Pushcair and kiddy stuff, and the windscreen pillars seem to create quite a blind spot.

We deliberately avoided the K series engine due o the head gasket issues and cooked blocks. The TD4 engine pulls really well.. to the point I have to keep my eye on the speedo as its quite deceiving.

I have now reclaimed the FFRR keys which is nice too!

;oP

Blimey.. I noticed it's quiet in here but not even a flame for mentioning the F word .... maybe the Evoke is drawing all the flak.

I think the initial bad press has died down with the "New" Freelander which is rather a good vehicle even in two wheel drive form and, as you say, the Evoque is getting plenty of flack from existing owners although the normal motoring press seem very enthusiastic. Don't understand why the anguish though, it's basically a small RR Sport, very plush, and seeing as everyone is downsizing it makes a good case for itself. Without such a vehicle you would have everyone downsizing to something not made by LR. It's a bit like Porsche and the Cayenne, all the 911 owners were up in arms but that vehicle saved the company and allowed it to make new 911s etc.

Indeed!

I had said car to myself tonight.. ahem.. never pushed it too hard ;)

Went to pick up some OEM mats I won off ebay.

The stereo actually cranks up quite well, initially I thought it was a tad tinny compared to the FFRR but once cranked up when little ears were out of the way it was quite pleasant.

I is an odd ride.. I'm used to driving Ford Focus estates very hard at work.. and the FFRR or 110 for entertainment / SDP. The Freelander is like the Focus on stilts I guess, which is about right as its a mondeo chassis I understand.

Anyway, I'm still here and keep a watching brief. It must be the reliability improvements that are causing it to get all quiet in here... though I suspect that Forum have alot to answer for, now that bandwidth isn't such an issue as it was in the early days of internet.

The Freelander II? Took my Disco II to the nearest LR independant specialist last week, Nigel Price, Newbrough between Haydon Bridge and Hexham. Tiny place but excellent service, well recomended. They said that they only see Freelander II's for services not faults...

Hate forums, slow, clunky, crap navigation but worse you have to go off find the site, login, etc just in case there is a new post. Usenet just happends, is fast and has decent threading. I did a comparision between actual amount of useful information and total data downloaded to display that same information in a forum. A 1k byte message (about the size of this one) took over 100k bytes to display on a pretty plain forum...

Just the weather?

Nice to hear that Nigel's still about and keeping his customers happy. Memories go back to when he was racing a coil-sprung lightweight at, I'd guess, the end of the seventies. Quite how much was actually lightweight beyond the body panels I can't recall.

Couldn't agree more. I can't stand the forum format.
