Retrofitting electronics

Hi, all.

Excuse my noob-like question, if there's a group FAQ which will answer this, feel free to point me to it.

We've just bought a Disco 3, 06 plate. The model we finally bought is missing a couple of the fancier electronic bells and whistles ( sat nav, phone system ).

Is it possible to retro-fit these on a DIY basis? I was considering trying to obtaining the parts from a breaker's yard, ebay, or similar.

I'm fairly competent with electronics in general, and am well up to removing a few blanking plates and adding the modules into the existing wiring loom. I'm also up for interfacing a laptop to the vehicle as required to tell it's management systems about the changes, assuming this is DIY-able, with a little computer pixie-dust. I have a fair amount of computer pixie-dust, a fair amount of electronics pixie-dust, but no specific knowledge about this vehicle.

1) Will the existing wiring loom have the necesary connection points? 2) Can the necessary modules be dropped in easily? 3) What is required on the software side to enable them?

Or is this simply not do-able?
