ATS

I'd like to try a different type of air temperature sensor with the Megasquirt on my SD1. To try and minimise heat soak problems on a hot restart.

The current one is the older enclosed type (sometimes called universal as it can be used in coolant too) - I'd like to go to the more usual (today) open frame sort, which hopefully will react to change in air temperature more quickly.

But I'd prefer one which is a direct swap. So with an 18mm thread and Junior timer connector. All the suitable ones sold by MS dealers seem to have a US thread - NPT.

The actual thermistor type doesn't matter as MS can be calibrated for any.

There are plenty which look right on Ebay - but are only listed by which cars they fit, so don't give the thread size and type.

Loading thread data ...

Can't you make an adapter? I am doing the same thing for an oil temp sensor on my old Suzuki. 18mm to 1/8NPT - I can buy a hot-rod fast-boys adapter from Japan for a tenner plus another 20 quid shipping, which is daft when an old oil gallery plug can be drilled and tapped for nothing.

I've not found an adaptor on sale. Would be possible to modify an M18 one with a smaller thread of course - but I don't have a 3/8 NPT tap.

M18 is a common size for CTS and O2 sensors. I'm pretty sure there must be an open frame ATS in that size too somewhere.

M!8 is not an unusual size for hydraulics & hence M18 to NPT adapters.

Yes. But 1/8th NTP isn't a common size for ATS.

Oddly you can get M18 to sizes other than 1/8NTP.

Most of these things seem to cost about the same as the sensor itself. And I'd still have the problem of not knowing what thread the sensor actually has. If you look at Ebay, you'll find lots of sensors for sale - but all as replacement parts so don't give any technical data. I've even contacted a couple of the larger suppliers and they couldn't help with data either.

IF you've got the sensor then a trip to the nearest hydrauic hose suppliers solves that. (Cheaoest source for M18 to NPT if you know the size is probably a pressure washer specialist)
