Clio Steering wheel

98R Clio 1.9D

The steering wheel seems skewed so that when your sat in the drivers seat with your hands on the wheel your right arm is straight whilst your left arm is bent slightly. I've had the shroud off and can see no problems inside but the shroud fit isn't good with the LH side showing a small gap on top (below the clocks).

The car drives superb with no faults, never mind steering faults.

This isn't how they're designed, surely?

Do you mean it's offset to one side from the center line of the seat? That's common on many cars, particularly smaller ones.

No, the wheel as regards the seating is correct. The wheel seems skewed as though the rod from the wheel down to the steering rack is straight and the steering wheel rim is hence farther away from the dash on the nearside. There is no play on the steering wheel or in the steering itself.

Is there any crash history on the car. Once had a ford escort with this issue after a smash. Drove straight and flawless but was a little uncomfortable to use due to aforementioned problem.
