Hey gang, I just found a months old E-mail from Steve in my inbox, tried replying and got shot down. Anyhow, I'm glad to see this place still going, I announced it before but I got back into a mustang some time around september. 96 GT vert, triple black. I hope everyone is well, Sam
After a couple of really nice Spring days, I'm glad to report the sightings of three local Fox Mustangs (2 convertibles) that I DON'T own! Rare, indeed, and good to see. All three were in relatively great shape, too.
Hi, Sam. I've always liked the triple black look. I'm sure you're thrilled. I once seriously considered a triple black Fox GT convertible, before coming across CFrog. Always wondered what it would be like, sitting in a miles-long highway crawl on a hot summer day with the top down, though, so I went with CFrog's light grey cloth seats, instead. :)
Hello ramfm!!! May 3 was the 10th anniversary of my first post to this NG, as Philly Essnillius. Wish I had a dollar for each one, but that wouldn't be too many dollars lately. Anybody check The Big Block Group lately? Seven new threads in the past year. Wow! I used to spend alot of time over there too. Amazing what's happened to that NG.
Lots of people consider the Ventura ll based GTO not a "real" GTO.=20 Sure wish I still had that over anything else I owned except maybe the GS= X.

I guess some feel the same way about the '04-'06 Aussie GTO's as well. That's what I've got. In answer to Patrick's question, we love the heck out of this car. Everybody needs to get one. In the two years since we bought ours for $14K iirc the price has dropped even further, with some going for $10K. 350 net hp, all-aluminum EFI 5.7 L V8, IRS, posi, 4 wheel pdb, alloy wheels, overdrive auto or six speed,
160 mph top speed, low 14-high 13 quarter mile, four leather high bolstered buckets, rack and pinion PS, 6-disc AM/FM changer, cruise, AC, tilt leather-wrapped steering wheel, power mirrors, trip computer, etc. Try putting all that stuff on a '68 GTO or Mustang. But don't try it unless you've got $40,000 and 1,000 man hours to burn.
Sorry for getting carried away there. But I mean it. Everybody needs to have one of these in the driveway. Or for a few thousand more go for an '05 or '06 with the 6.0 L 400 hp LS2. I rarely drive my '70 Cougar anymore, and the '65 Mustang fb sits in the garage with a busted crankshaft. Who cares, when I can just get in the GTO and go.
I'm in your camp! These recent late-models are getting/are so good it makes little sense, IMO, to own a "classic". Why tinker your free time away when you can be driving, and driving a car that can do it all/do it better?
Me... I'm negotiating a deal now. The ['93] Cobra has been good, but it's time for a change -- something packing about 200 more horsepower, has an extra cog in the trans and has real braking power.
I've pretty much decided that I don't have the time to add another car that needs care. I'd really like a nice '69 Mach 1, but the prices of them have gotten so absurd and new GT will run circles around it and it won't need all the attention of a 40 year old car. I understand from a shelby forum that GT500s are being sold reasonably compared to MSRP but now a GT can be optioned to be essentially what I want minus IRS although the tests seem to indicate that the current live axle set up's downsides are probably mostly on broken pavement. I never wanted the HP of the GT500, I wanted the suspension and brakes without doing it myself as I have on my '97.
I'll probably check out some other new cars but I've essentially decided that I'll just play with my maverick for having fun with the classic ford compact chassis car.
I've seen a couple nice fox cars for sale recently. Pass by an early 90s vert every work day now that's for sale. Sometimes I think I should buy one while they are cheap... then I think that I really don't have the desire to take care of yet another old car.
Same here, except I don't want an old, or a second, car. Because I know if I get new pony car/performance car the ['93] Cobra will just sit. And then what's the point in keeping it? Might as well sell it and let someone enjoy the car.
But I already have an old car that I see others of far far less often than old mustangs. A 40+ year old car even if fully restored or a perfect original just has limitations of how you can use it because of how easily the environment damages cars of that era.
Once in a while I peek in via Google Groups. I still keep screwing up my replies though - I think I keep sending directly to poster instead of group.
My email is still seeverist, however I haven't been on Peoplepc for about 10 years. Since then I've been to Earthlink (and left). However that email address is still good if you add comcast, yahoo, or gmail to the end (creative, huh?).
I just sold my project Buick about a month ago. I sent it to the guy who built the motor to get it finished and ready to go to the track. However another friend was storing it at his place while the transmission was being rebuilt. He needed a motor for his GS400 convert and my 'builder' mentioned a deal I had offered him when he picked up the car. So long story short, I sold the whole car and a lot of extra parts and pieces to him for a good deal (way less than the value of what was there). I figured it had been about 5 years since it was at the track and I wasn't in a hurry to get back with it either. Plus, it was going to be a pretty jarring ride if I wanted to drive it around town, which I likely wouldn't do. So I cut bait.
In the meantime, I picked up one of those Rav4's for a daily driver as my Ranger was falling apart. No recalls on mine and I took it to the track and got a 15.05 @ 91.34 mph with a best 60' time of 2.14. There's a guy on the east coast with the same year/version with just a cold intake, ultraflow muffler, and lighter wheel/tire package who hit a 13.93 and 13.94 during cold weather. I won't be changing the wheels, but will work with the intake and exhaust and hope to see mid to low
14's with it. Not bad for AWD and 29 mpg the day I drove it 50 miles home.
I'm also keeping my eyes open for something else that can be a comfortable driver while also running consistent numbers in the 13's or better so that I can do some bracket racing.
