car wont start and sputters when you floor it

I have a 2003 Altima with the 6 cyl. The other day my wife filled it with gas, and as she was coming home, when she put the pettle to the floor it sputtered. Then next morning we went out to start it and it woulnt start. The motor wasnt even turning over. Eventually after letting the starter turn over for about 30 to 45 seconds it started. She went to work and the samething happened when she left. I drove it the next day and had the same problem starting it and driving down the road. i took it to the dealership and the first thing they said it was, was the gas. Then they called and said tehy coulnt get it started in teh morning and checked the compression and there wasnt any or it was very little. And now they have no idea whats going on. Anybody got any ideas!!!

It could be many things, but after the dealer determined the compression was very low and then mentioned they have no idea what your problem might be is just plain stupid on their part - they are using some car buzzwords to confuse you. Low compression would cause a no start or bad start and would need to be fixed before anything else, if your compression is indeed low.

A no start condition cause is not that hard to determine, especially at a dealer where they have tools like empty beer cans. IMO, they are either stupid or crooks or both - I'd get a new mechanic if I were you.
