2000 Pontiac Grand Am SE

I have a 2000 Grand Am SE and the security light is coming on while I am driving, when I stop the car (for gas or what ever) the security light blinks and my car will not turn over. I have to wait about 10 min for the security light to stop blinking and then my car starts right up. Does anyone know what would be causing this or how I can fix it? I don?t ever set the alarm system so could I turn it off or will this cause more problems?

  1. Turn ON the igniton, with the engine OFF.

  1. Attempt to start the engine, then release the key to ON (vehicle will not start).

  2. Observe the SECURITY telltale, it will be flashing. After approximately
10 minutes the telltale will turn OFF.

  1. Turn OFF the ignition, and wait 5 seconds.

  2. Repeat steps 1 through 4 two more times for a total of 3 cycles/30 minutes. The vehicle is now ready to relearn the PASSlock Sensor Data Code and/or passwords, on the next ignition switch transition from OFF to CRANK.

IMPORTANT: The vehicle learns the PASSlock Sensor Data Code and/or password on the next ignition switch transition from OFF to CRANK. You MUST turn the ignition OFF before attempting to start the vehicle.

  1. Start the engine. The vehicle has now learned the PASSlock Sensor Data Code and/or password.

  1. With a scan tool, clear any DTCs if needed. History DTCs will clear themselves after 100 ignition cycles.
