CDI system for a Stude.

I seem to be having some trouble locating a bolt-on Capacitive Discharge Ignition system. (for the 63 Cruiser)

Anybody got a vendor name and/or recommendation.

What do you mean by bolt on? I have a CDI-Mulitspark for my 59 Lark made my Mallory. One can not just bolt it on and hook the wires up. Wires might have to be cut/spliced or by passed. A better coil should also be used. The spark plugs should also be no resistor type for best performance. Spiral wound spark plug wires should also be used. If the 63 uses a resistor wire in the ignition system like my

64 did then that might have to be taken out of the loop. Try going here

and check out the catalogues or the instructions for details on what is required for installation of the various units. MSD have good units too, I just happened to not always go with the flow. You could just bolt it on and go but because of the higher power leaks will probably be found.

That said it fairly simple and well worth it. I have swapped all the ignition electrical out except the distributor which I rebuilt. I am now looking for a non point system for it to take out any wear discrepancies.

As the WoO says, there's many CD type ignition boxs on the market. Both single-fire (not so good), and multi-fire, (best).

But none are "made" for a Studebaker. They are all a "customer assemble to your particular car" package.

MSD, Accel, Crane, Pertronix, Mallory plus two or three others I can't recall the names of right now.

You can use the stock points or switch to an electrical type switch in place of the points. Either will work with most of the current CD boxs.

The net is a wonderfull place to find things like this. Another is a Jegs or Summit catalog, they even have prices and quick deliverys.
