expansion tank elimination and SC belt slippage

Two questions, one post...1st, if I remove the expansion tank on my R2 Avanti, what am I losing? It's leak free but it crushes the under hood pad and then the paint gets roughed up and it looks like hell. Clearance issues on the R3 exhaust manifolds and exhaust pipes dictate the engine be raised a bit. Pipe clearance is a result of the 700R4 and the required starter position.

Second question, I know I need a shorter belt on my SC. I installed a smaller pulley and the slack is readily visible. I have 5 lbs of boost at 3500 RPM and then the gauge starts to flutter and reads no more than a pound. Belt slippage is my assumption but shouldn't I hear some squealing? Before the pulley change there was boost all the way up to redline and I've driven less than 100 miles with the smaller pulley so I don't think anything busted but I would be happier if I heard some screeching when the boost dropped off.

The expansion tank eliminator places the filler neck in the upper hose and overflow is routed to a remote coolant recovery tank.
