About a year ago a member (older then I am, if you can believe it) gave a talk about driving with the bolt-on "wire Wheels" that were the Studebaker (and other cars) option. He approached it from a mechanical engineering viewpoint and was strongly against it. If I had some I would use them for local display, but mount them after getting to any distant shows and take them off before heading home..

Unfortunately the center caps stuck out from the wheel a pretty good distance and were very vulnerable to hitting curbs. So, they are the hardest to find in decent condition. I have suffered this damage and I had had a couple damaged by dummies who tried to pry them off like a conventional wheel cover. The wire sets show up at a lot of parts meets, but the centers are usually gone or damaged. These wire wheel covers are commonly called "Speedster" covers, but they were first offered on 1953 models.
