Gaskets

Which is the best type of Fel-Pro gasket for stamped steel oil pans or valve covers?

  1. Rubberized cork
  2. Rubber
  3. Rubber coated paper

Why do they make so many different types for the same engine and year?

I've used the rubberized cork and the rubber ones. Both work fine.. The rubber ones are re-usable and the cork ones are a pain to clean when you need to replace them. Never used the rubber coated paper ones.

Silicone molded over a steel core if they are available. If not, reinforced silicone (rubber) then silicone blended cork. Paper is used on places that are very stiff, oil pan lips and valve covers are far from stiff, even the cast ones move a lot.
