Since you have purchased other cars before, and you know how well you maintain your car, you should be able to figure out whether it is worth it. Do the math.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Oh, I don't know....if automotive longevity always was due to good maintenance, a lot of people might maintain their cars better. But sometimes troubles come out of the blue....you might dutifully flush and adjust your transmission just right and it might still fail unexpectedly. Same goes for most other parts. If what you said were true, Barbaro would not have broken his hind leg. Surely he was "well maintained" yet misfortunes can happen. I would think that whether a person buys into the extended warranty business is based on fear of the unknown (costly unknown!) and whether the individual can write a check for a complex and costly repair or would sooner be covered for that expense by getting the insurance policy. I once knew a guy who had a long term extended warranty on his TV, and figured that he had in fact paid double for the tv, yet never had to have a service call. I've been a car owner for at least fifty-five years, and have never had a faulty transmission or had to replace a radiator, and only one of my cars ever developed a bad differential, so I might have spent thousands of dollars insuring against such an expense, It's a crapshoot.
thanks Mac. Actually, I am risk averse, that's why I am sensitive to these possible parts problems!!!! But, at 1300$ for 5 years 60 miles, I will passs....
That's merely MSRP for the Camry Hybrid at 5 years/60,000 miles/$0 deductible. It's overpriced if a quote for the same coverage on a gas-only Camry.
The Camry Hybrid seems to have the same MSRP pricing scheme as the Prius. Although the MSRP for the longest/best coverage plan, Toyota Extra Care Platinum, is near $1800, there are dealers that will sell this plan for the Prius for less than $1000. Far less expensive and longer coverage than what you were offered.
I suggest that you call around for better pricing...
