Chilean bug resto update

No pictures yet, will upload tomorrow... but have done:

Engine:

-tinware, intake manifold and valve covers installed.

-took the heater boxes to a lcoal welder to remove the rests of the welded on muffler they came with an weld extension tubes to fit stock muffler (with peashooters!)

-took carb apart (H30PICS). Found idle, air and accel pump jets clogged and float with broken tang. Did this bug ever ran with that carb?

-submerged carb parts for a day in solvent (could not find carb cleaner in non-spray form locally).

-Reassembled most of carb after devlogging every passage.

-bought a used but good float for US$4.

Chassis/Car:

-Did some grinding of transmission for 12 volt engine. Guided by pictures posted here and 'How to hot rod' book. Could not decide when to quit, so grinded a los of the humps on the tranny mounts, and little on the rest. How to know withou installing engine how much to grind?

-Started treating rust.

-Installed battery. Car did not catch fire (good) has low beams (better) no other light works (not that good :)

uf... thats two weeks. lots a work this old cars :)

Sounds like you're making great progress, Eduardo. Is your brother taking good care of your '76 that you sold to him?

He ran it out of oill and wasted the engine 2 months after he took it. Its now in some mechanics garage waiting for money from my brother to fix... and no, he does not want me to fix it :(

......................I have three other drivers in my household who never think of checking the oil level and can't remember how to find the dipstick no matter how many times I show it to them.

my brother lives 80 miles away, in a hilly city. he called me from a friends house on top a hill. He asked what was that red light on his speedometer. It had gone on starting the climb up the hill...

Actually the one that dropped on his head when young was me :) 5 days on a coma a a 5 stick scar over mi right eye.

Maybe thats why I like 40 year old cars I have to fabricate every part for :)

I take it your brother was not a great fan of Wherner Von Braun!

A couple of pictures of the carb, in case you want to know how a Brosol/Solex H-30PICS carb looks like. Stock in most brazilian bugs, manual choke (most of the time not used at all).
