my SuperBug project frustrations

This week was a horror of endless back order problems.

First was trying to locate KoolPatch black roofing cement. Lots of local area hardware retailers where listed by the manufacturer, but no one had it. Thank God Ace was willing to get if for me (though the standard order was a box of 4 one gallon containers and I just needed a single gallon), but just every salesman I talked to from Loews to specialty roofing supply companies wanted to talk me into alternate products and even tried to suggest caulking.

hello? anyone home? I need KoolPatch, can you order it?

I already tried Henries #401, but had to scrape it off the floors the next day cause it wouldn't harden. Now that what's left is less than a 1/4" it's finally setting and can put the KoolPatch over it once I get in a week. Just what I need more delays...

PS. KoolPatch will be used on the (now rust repaired) floorpans to fill the gaps before the Q-Pads go down, then over the gaps a second time as described on

Now with all the extra KoolPatch I'm forced to get, looks like I'll be undercoating, too. Not a bad side effect caused by 2 hours of phone calls to every hardware store/roofing supply center in the SF bay area.

Next on the gripes list regards plumbing.. Oh, just can't I get things right the first time? Did you know that an "anchor coupling" is the inverse of a "bulkhead union"? But the bulkhead union would require 2 additional coupling to get the sex correct for my needs.. Ok, who makes a brass (no steel please..) anchor coupling with 1/2" FPT ends?... Ok, parker brass fittings (207ACBH-8).. Ok, found a local dealer.. Let's see how I do tomorrow and how many weeks it'll take me to get 4 of them..

I'm very frustrated.. Every item I need is just taking a whole lotta effort.. I need those unions in at the rear of the tunnel near the shift coupling before I can put the transaxle in. Oh, but I also need the Käfer Cup brace, but that's one of the infinite back ordered items from aircooled.net (not John's fault). The delivery date is like days from before my garage space is done and I have to give the welder back. Oh, I'm sooo frustrated. Just remembered, I should get a greenlee hole punch for the anchor coupling holes, as drilling wouldn't leave a clean cut.

Oh, did I mention the Recoil thread repair kit for M18x1.5 I ordered on June 22nd to repair one of the framehorn tranny mounts won't get to me until Tuesday? About freaking time!

I wouldn't be so crazed if I wasn't under a deadline. My shop garage space is over in 20 days. I tried my best to prepare.. A rushed retrofit is not something I would do again.

On the positive side, tomorrow I know can make progress on the recaro seat brackets and raise the rear mounts an inch. Have welder, will weld.
