95 Audi A6 engine swap, reconditioned, breakers, retrofit diesel

Hi to all,

This is my first foray into this group, so apologies for any obvious gaffs on my part.

I have a '95 Audi A6 2.0 auto petrol.

The big ends are on their way out, and my questions to your good selves are as follows:

1) Can the diesel be put straight in, as this was an option when new?

2) Are there any independant specialists who do engine swaps, as I can't afford Audi prices 8)

3) Any people know contacts in the North west of england? Cheshire / Stockport / Manchester etc?

4) I fancy putting in the 2.5 TDi if I can source a fairly low mileage one from a rear end crash victim, has anyone got experience of doing this? Is it straight forward?

Any help greatly appreciated.

Jason, Welcome to the fray! Certainly you can put any engine you want in there, it's just a matter of $.....or, in your case, pounds. The problem is, that although the engine you want was available as an option, converting a car over, including wiring harnesses, fuel tanks, etc. may require parts from stem to stern of the wreck. If you're paying someone to do the changeover, then it may be more economical to look for a good running 95 A6 turbodiesel than looking for a wreck of one, and have someone recreate it in the A6 shell you have. Cheers! Steve Sears
