328 Engine Bogging

I have a 99 328CI e36 (Yes Convertibles are still 36 in 99) the with 100 KM .

I note a bogging of the engine when say rounding a very slow corner while in Second gear and I hit the gas to accelerate. It also will happen if hitting the gas with 1000 rpm showing on the tack and I hit it when in 3rd gear.

I know the obvious answer is to gear down, but It does not occur in my friends 328 under same situations.

I have had BMW run the codes and they come up with no issues on the car.

Has anyone encountered this, and if yes, please comment on the fit if any.

Sounds as if one of the VANOS cams could be stuck in the "advanced" timing position? I'd have it looked at by a specialist.

I have something of the same thing but not at those revs on my M Roadster. What could cause he VANOS to react slow or stuck. Mine only does it every now and then, but more often lately.

Here is a description of BMW VANOS:

It is initially actuated by a solenoid, but then oil pressure advances the cam. Being both mechanical and electrical, I suppose, any number of things could go wrong...
