Another 325i 1995 that won't start - ANY INPUT

Hi all. I've own this car for just 4 months. It's 110,000KMS.

Yesterday I filled up on my regular gas station but when I went back inside the car it no longer starts. The same thing happened to me a month before and all I did is leave it for a couple of hours. This time a couple of hours didn't do it. I left the car overnight and today this noon, I was able to start it again.

On my way home I noticed that my fuel gauge dropped. It gave me a feeling that it will not start again if I turn it off. I was right.

When I start it all lights are on as normal, however no cranking. I checked my starter and solenoid. It looks like the is no power being sent to the solenoid. I say this because I checked it with a meter with key in ON. I also jumpered a +12 V to the solenoid and the started cranked the engine, although it won't go running as if no fuel or ignition.

Now I'm thinking it's the EWS system. Perhaps any switch/ or relay in the auto transmission that failed? I have no experience troubleshooting an EWS system. I'm not even sure if I got the EWS or EWSII as my key look nothing especial except for the little light and just a battery inside when I oppened it. Even the spare is solid plastic.

One thing I'm sure is that power to the starter is being cut-off by something. The car has central locking system and the alarm is CLifford.

I have seen this problem posted but no clear or reported resolution. Maybe you've seen this happened please comment.

Also can anyone who had the EWS replaced comment on how much I looking at if needed to be replaced.

Thanks All!

I would inspect the operation of the key switch first; got to make sure the start signal is coming out of the switch and making it to the ecu.

Also disconnect your Clifford alarm...

Dave's issue doens't seem like mine. His starter is cranking I believe. My engine is running beautifully before this happened.

Anybody had their EWS replaced? HOw much did it cost you?

Thanks.

UPDATE: I towed the car to a BMW specialist garage. Diagnostics point to "system lock-out". Somehow the EWS is not accepting or getting code from the keys.

Tomorrow, I am forced to get it towed to dealership.

sounds as though the resistor in your key has died, or just dirt buildup in your igntion switch...Whati was going to say before i saw this post , was try slaming your gear shift into park ( if automatic tranny) if you have a stick then check the clutch safety switch, on the clutch pedel mount....

Thanks. Actually, even the spare key doesn't work. The car is sitting in dealership right now. They said the EWS module needs replacing. Hard to argue with that. It's coming from Germany. I believe they are made VIN specific.
