CD Changer

1996, M3 Evo, UK. The othr day, after I had changed one CD in the boot mounted changer, the CD player suddenly quit. In the radio/CD console, it shows up as No Disc, whereas the changer in the boot refuses to eject the cartridge. It in fact gives absolutely no response when I push the eject button. My garage specialist says he doesn't do electrics but that it maybe time that I need a new CD changer. I wonder if anyone has any thoughts about either repairing this or any aftermarket product (without that expensive BMW stamp) that may co-ordinate with the controls on the radio unit. IIRC, the unit is manufactured by Pioneer for BMW. Can I force the cartridge out in someways so that I can atleast get my CDs out?

BTW, I have checked the fuse and that isn't the problem.

Thanks in advance for any help, pointers, thoughts or possible solutions.

Sounds like a CD has gotten stuck in the machine. You could try removing the covers from the changer to see if you can release it by hand.

Steve, I took the unit down but couldn't get any nearer to either removing the cartridge or any individual CD. I didn't want to use undue force. Anyother thoughts anyone?

TIA,

Vijay

Vijay,

Is there a small hole in the unit marked "Eject" or something similar - it'll be quite small; just about big enough to get a paper clip into? If there is then use said paper clip in the hole - it takes quite a bit of force - to manually release the cartridge.

Other than that I'm afraid I can't help. Sorry :-(

My CD changer has just done the same thing. Bah. And I had five of my favourite CDs in it too.

You take the unit out of the car, open it, and manually operate the gears to retract the cd back into the mag. and then operate the gears to get it to eject.

Vijay,

you can take a credit card and slide the card underneath the cd cartridge and it will pop out. I had this happen in my 525 (US model). Not sure if you have a single CD also stuck in the player itself. If so, you can take it out by opening up the unit. I had a CD stuck in there when 2 buttons (cd 2 and cd 3) were pressed one after the other by mistake. The first cd was in the process of unloading and cd2 attempted to load.

Don't force anything.

hope this helps. anil bharucha

I did better than that. It worked after a couple of thumps :-)
