E39 Service Costs

I think it may be cheaper to ship my car across the Atlantic, get it serviced, then bring it back to the UK.

From an Inspection II quote from my local dealer - all prices converted to US$ at current rates:

Spark Plugs $13.81. each.

Mobil 1: $22.98/litre $24.28/quart

Labo(u)r: $182/hour (it's $267/hour in Central London)

Total cost is $712.

I can work out a deal to ship you Mobil 1 for $5 or $6 per (US) quart. I'll have to check the price on the spark plugs. US BMW dealer shop labor rate is currently about $90/hr as far as I know, but I don't think I can ship that. Let me know.

Have the car serviced at AMC in Garrat Lane, Tooting. BMW trained mechanics and you can watch them work. Not posh premises with dolly bird receptionists and leather sofas but they do the work properly. ;-)

Thanks Dean but I buy it from Costco at $10/quart and get my friendly independent BMW specialist to use that :)

Thanks Dave. I actually get mine done at Hurst Automotive in Leicester which sounds just like AMC. Only got the dealer quote out of interest whilst I was in their parts department.
