1993 3500 Diesel

Anybody know about this year? I heard it was the first year for the turbo's and they had allot of problems.

I am looking to buy one, and was curious. It has the 5 speed. 2WD.

I've got a '93 2500 2wd with the 6.5 turbo with 234,000 on it. No major problems with the engine, did put another injection pump on it about 4,000 miles ago. Needed a trans. overhaul approx. 10,000 ago. 4L80E. Been through a lot of pickups over the years and this has been my best one. The '93 6.5 turbo was the last year of the full mechanical injection pump. There were some problems with the PSD unit on the electronically controlled injection pumps in '94. '93 wasn't the first year for the 6.5 turbodiesel. Just my .02.

Thanks for the update. I did buy it, and had my mechanic go over it. Turbo is in great shape. Had to get a fuel heater, and had some bad hoses replaced. Starts just fine now, and the 3000 lb 10' slide in camper on it is barely noticeable.

Now just to try and find some clean diesel.

I heard, and correct me if I heard wrong, but if you add a quart of kerosene once a month, or 4 tanks of fuel, it keeps the injectors running better. There are diesel fuel modifiers out there too, but was curious about the kerosene.

I have heard this kerosene thing too. But for as much as an injector pump and injectors cost, I buy the brown stuff in the clear plastic bottles at the truckstops. Can't think of the name of it, but the truckers swear by it to give the pumps and injectors a long life. Stanadyne makes a very good fuel additive also, and Stanadyne is the mfr. of the pump on your truck. Good luck with the truck.
