Have an '02 8.1L w/ 4.10 rear:

  1. Tows like a Clydesdale horse
  2. Drinks gas
  3. The Allison is incredible, especially down large hills w/ heavy trailers
  4. Drinks gas
  5. Has tons of torque
  6. Did I mention it likes gas?

Seriously, it's an incredible engine. Mine knocks like a diesel, especially on cold morning starts, and only has 20K miles on it. It pulls our 32' 5'er without issue. I average 9.2 MPGs city/hwy and have gotten into the 12's on all hwy. The MPGs can be all over the board based on the type of driving you are doing. It's done as bad as 6.8 MPG using tow/haul mode for a trip w/ the

5'er just to see what it did to the mileage! Thankfully this is not necessary to use with our unit. If you are worried about the fuel bill, this ain't the engine for you! It definitely beats the 6.0L w/ 4.10 rear. I had that and pulled the same trailer. It would pull the mountains of TN at 60 MPH, but worked a lot more to do so.

Thanks k for the info it was a big help.
