96 s10 dead cylinder

I have a 96 s10 with 2.2. At idle the number one cylinder is dead but at higer rpm's it comes alive. there is fire on cylinder even when it's dead, also there is gas smell like it's flooding, i have ran compression and all cylinders checks good. Guy who owned it before me said that it broke the timeing chain and ever since that its had dead cylinder. i've had head off and no burnt or bent valves.. engine runs good except sluggish on low end and rough idle, still gets about 30 mpg. can someone point me in right direction as to what might be wrong . thanks

Engine overheated at some point and burned the valves and the valves on the dead cylinder got burned worst. Going without an oil change for more than

8-10,000 miles can also cause a lack of oil flow around a valve and then the valve in this cylinder STB early. Get a good valve job and this cylinder problem will be fixed.
