Brake Warning Noisemaker

May 13, 2005 4 Replies

Hi!

I heard one of the brake warning "things" on my truck (2003 S-10, 4.3 V6, ext cab) sound the other day.

It only sounded for a brief period of time and I have not heard it again.

Any ideas? Is this a cause for concern?

If you are talking about the "wear indicator", which is a small piece of metal that touches the rotor when the pad is worn down far enough....it simply is telling you that the pad is worn out.

Hi!

Yes, that's the thing. I couldn't think what the precise name was...

Anyway, it only came for a very short time (probably 2 seconds) while pulling down the end of a driveway. Upon applying the brakes it stopped immediately. I have not heard it since and figured it was just a fluke. Looks like I will be removing the wheel over the weekend and looking...

Change the pads before you ruin a rotor. Get rotors turned while you are at it.
