Saw one at my dealership, in Western pa...Lots of horsepower, v8, and I saw something about Smoking Asphalt...maybe that was the color. It also had a plastic convertable top, that folded behind the seat!! Also the bed is covered with , a intergral cover. Inside has some old type knobs...All that for $42,000...I guess I'm getting old, but this didn't seem what I wanted...but if you got the bucks, you better get one, because they are only gonna make so many of them!
We just got the first one in our dealership. Bright yellow. Of course, we all stood around it for a while, just watching the hard top retract. It's a work of art, but I certainly won't be buying one.
It has the 5.3 engine, but it's slightly different from the truck engine. This one is all aluminum, instead of the cast block that the truck engines use.
Bit of a side note: that same all aluminum 5.3 engine comes in the new extended TrailBlazers. We've already replaced one of these engines for a rather nasty cracked block. I've heard of another in the city being replaced for this problem...hopefully it's not the beginning of a bunch of these engines having cracking problems. You can see the crack in this picture:
Symptoms were a noisy engine. Sounded like a lifter. The tech fooled around for a bit, and then pulled the valve cover. Valve cover had the usual white milky scum that you would have seen on a 3100/3400 engine with coolant in the oil. Passenger side head was pulled with the assumption that a head gasket had failed. We have seen a number of head gasket failures on the truck engines, but it's usually a split gasket to the "outside" of the engine...not an internal type of leak.
Nothing obvious was seen when the head came off, until someone noticed the crack. From there, it was install a new engine. Which is quite nasty by the way. I thought the I6 was bad enough, but the v-8 in the Trailblazer is just plain nasty.
I am sure I will see a few at the local college campus this spring. I honestly don't know how these families have so much money they can buy their "kid" a $43k truck, and then send them to a Junior college. Shoot, when I got straight As, I got a pat on the back. Kids these days are getting BMWs if they get a C average.
