Spare Tire Mount

My son owns a 1988 S10 Blazer and I would like to buy him the spare tire rack that I see on so many of these vehicles.

The one I am seeking is the type that attaches to the passenger right rear, and latches to the tailgate. It is hinged to swing out of the way so the rear can be opened.

I have searched for places that usually sell things like this, but so far have not found a source. There are not many places close by for me to shop in, so I would like to find an online source. Can anymore suggest a vendor who can sell me this kind of spare tire mount?

Thanks,

Mark

I think that you'll need to visit a good salvage yard or a dealer. I've never seen this item in a store or catalog. Rich B

Just for ther ecord, these place a very large strain on the rear quarter that it wasn't really designed for. If the doner vehicle hs any rust in that area take a close look, it's common for the quarter to actually flex away from the truck with the tire carrier open. They look great (I love mine) but they really need a more solid mounting point (on the bumper, maybe reinforced to the frame from inside the quarter, etc...)

Thanks Rich. I believe you are right. So its only original equipment ...... :(

Are there other mounts besides the "jed clampett" stuck to the roof kind?

Much obliged,

Mark

To me it sound like a Rees hitch with the tire rack attachment would be good fix. I've seen them but I'm not sure where to get one.
