Strange ABS/Rotor question????

Folks: My 93 G30 with HD brakes, has a bad rotor. I picked up a replacement rotor/hub, but it is a bit older and doesn't have the ABS pickup ring on the inside of the hub.

Would it be possible to remove the ring and install it on the older hub??

If so, any hints as to the best possible method.

I had thought to put the hub in the freezer, remove, heat up the ring, and use a wheel puller.

Thanks for any help.

It's better to just get the right Rotor for your G30. One with the ABS ring. Some rings you can heat up to take off. If you heat them Evenly you can then lift them right off using a couple small pry bars or something to lift it off. I normally do this with the Explorers. Need to replace a wheel stud, well they are right behind the ABS Ring, so you have to remove it. It's pretty simple to Heat and Remove if your Carful so that it doesn't crack. Others though are pretty flimsy, and you could just end up bending it, warping it, and you'll have problems with the ABS working correctly. I don't know what your problem is with just getting the right year Rotor at a Auto parts store. You can pick up a new China made rotor pretty cheap these days.

Thanks for the input JB. I will be selling the truck as soon as Im finished this job, and the ABS is not working anyway. After buying the older hub/rotor I thought I would try and be a nice guy so the buyer might be able to fix the ABS without having to replace the rotor. Nice to know it can be done, and if it doesn't work out Im not out anything.

Any comments on installation?
