Just curious: does the brightness of the light give any indication as to the strength of the spark?

A timing light is nothing more then a Strobe Light, it just happens to flash every time it picks up the current though the spark plug wire. It's actually getting it's power directly from the battery. There's no brightness to timing lights. It just flashes on full force. It does it so fast it looks like the engine isn't moving because the timing line is virtually standing still. A pretty cool trick for something so simple.
