Trans problem - 98 Astro

Aug 05, 2005 3 Replies

Thought I'd ask for some advice:

After running for an hour or so, trans shifts hard (feels like something's "kicking" the van in the rear). 1st to 2nd is really bad, 2nd to 3rd not so bad.

Anyone know what causes this? Fixes? Is this a trans problem or would an auxiliary cooler help? Any advice appreciated!! Thanks....

Sounds like bad news. Probably too late for the cooler. You probably won't know for sure until you drop the pan - or it just quits shifting at all.

Code P-1870

probably worn TCC regulator valve in valve body

I've developed a similar problem in a '99 Astro with 105,+++ on the clock. Is there any test, diagnostic, etc. to verify the problem, & what's a reasonable estimate for repair costs? Thanks!
