84 Reliant - No Spark

Sep 22, 2003 1 Replies
84 Reliant 2.2 automatic

Was running great just quit running as was driving down the road. Checked the wire from the coil no Fire. Replaced the Coil, Dis. Cap & plate inside the cap. Still no Fire from the coil. The car will crank and turn the engine over but will not start or fire. Plenty of Gas getting to the carb.

What else should I check

Which "plate inside the cap" did you replace? The rotor on this vehicle is sort of plate-shaped, but there's a pickup plate assembly below the rotor

-- these are somewhat notorious for failure with the result you describe. Another common cause of no spark is the 4-blade shutter wheel loosening from the underside of the rotor -- it must be tightly affixed to the rotor with no slop.
