Is the 2.7L V6 a Hemi?

Apr 26, 2004 3 Replies

I ask this 'cause the Spark Plugs appear to go thru the valve covers.

No. A true Hemi has 2 valves per cylinder and a dome-shaped combustion chamber. The v6 engines (3.5, 3.2, 2.7) with 4 valves per cylinder are technically "pent roof" combustion chambers with intersecting flat planar surfaces, not true Hemi heads.

OK Steve. Thanks for the info.

BTW is the new 5.7L hemi a true hemi. Ie. does it have a Dome shaped (HEMIspherical) combustion chamber?

As far as I know, yes. Pent-roof chambers are really only an advantage when you have 4 valves.
