Despite the comment, isn't pyramid selling (this is not even 'selling') of this sort illegal in the US/CA? Maybe just sending money to people is ok... (like charitable donations, since there is no pretence).

Only illegal in the U.S. if sent thru the postal system. Referred to as "chain letters". Otherwise, stupidty has not been outlawed.
