turn signal troubleshooting

Hi,

looking for troubleshoot advice for a turn signal problem on a 94 Shadow. The left signal does not flash, just stays on when applied. Right flashes normally. When braking or using hazards the left rear bulb dims. Last night with the park lights on the left signal indicator started staying on (somewhat dimmer)constantly, with the outside bulbs getting dim.

From what i've gleaned from here I have a bad ground. How can I check

the grounds for the front /rear sockets? I assume the bulb grounds to the socket and then a wire leads to the fender apron? Can someone give the reason a bad ground causes an indicator to light?

Thanks, Mike

The bad ground causes the indicator to light because not having a ground, the parking lights are backfeeding voltage into the turn signal circuit. I would wait until it's dark-ish, then put on your parking lights and the left turn signal. Look closely at all the lights. The one where the park filament is not lit, or is glowing dimly, will be the one with the bad ground.

good luck,

nate
