dicovery warning light

In news:9QsGf.17486$ snipped-for-privacy@newsfe7-win.ntli.net, Alan Dennison wrote something quite bizarre, possibly in an effort to confuddle the world. It went like so;

Alternator has bitten the dust.

My 1st Range Rover did *exactly* the same thing, but mine thought the best time to seek attention was on Boxing Night in a hotel car park miles from anywhere.

Which was nice of it.

Alan Dennison ( snipped-for-privacy@ntlworld.com) gurgled happily, sounding much like they were saying :

Buggered ignition switch? Duff relay?

I'd suggest that alt.fan.landrover would probably be more useful than here.

HELP My Disco 200 tdi ignition warning light is on even with the ignition off?

With the engine running all seems ok. With the engine off but ignition on the warning light fails to show. As soon as I turn the ignition key off the "ignition/no charge" light comes on.

Battery condition seems ok with a test meter and charge seems ok. It has only just started to do this after a short local trip. If there is an expert out there who can assure me that it won't go up in flames over night I will be much relieved.
