European breakdown cover

There was a thread a little while ago about this but it ended up in a discussion about insurers own breakdown cover. My insurer doesnt offer this, and my current breakdown cover mob dont either, so I started ringing round to cover a 9 day trip to France for the Minors On Tour event next weekend. The ONLY mob prepared to quote are so far the AA, with a rather entertaining offer of £89 for the nine days. Anyone have any suggestions for term cover, or even a years worth if the price is reasonable, for a 1961 Mini van?

Try Footman James. When you say you've been ringing around, do you mean just general brokers or classic specialists? I'd be surprised if Firesure, Lancaster, etc, couldn't help.

I don't pay much more than that for a year of normal classic cover! And I get 30 or so days European cover included with no extra charge. Try Peter Best, Footman James, Boncaster etc for a quote on a full policy, it might be worth cancelling or transferring your existing cover and starting fresh :)

The AA is just a joke, and they stopped doing free 72 hour European cover without telling me. They wanted to charge me more for three days in Belgium than a whole year's rescue and relay in the UK. I won't be renewing my membership this year.

The RAC will give you a discount or waive the surcharge for an older vehicle if you're a member of an MSA recognised club.

Adrian Flux offers breakdown cover with insurance for £40 a year including European travel. The only problem is that it's for the insured car only so if you have several cars on the road it can work out more expensive than personal cover.
