I need to renew my breakdown cover, but I'd appreciate a bit of advice from the group as to the best company to go for.
I'm after basic roadside assistance for a one-year old car, one driver only. Getting prices of the major players, the AA is dearest at £42, the RAC is £34 and Green Flag is cheapest at £26.25. Is there a great deal of difference between them?
from my experience of Green Flag a year or two ago - they are only really a recovery service. They didn't do much in the way of roadside repairs.
I was with AA for a while but switched to the RAC this year as it was a better deal... I've got most of the services to fix or get me home from anywhere in the country.
I'm sure there are others with more experience of these things and what there performance is like on a call out.
I have been with the AA for over 20 years. Like most people who join a breakdown organisation, I make little use ot their services as I try and maintain my car to a reasonable standard. However, I have had to call them out very occasionally and found them to be excellent both in their attitude and ability. I know I could save a bit of money by switching but the overall package is very good. Sometimes paying a little extra is worth it.
.My post was a bit late in being sent - so I have missed the rest of the thread... but I agree, the extra cost is worth it. I switched this year from the AA to the RAC - purely because I do a LOT of miles and the RAC recovery to home package was a better option with them... also the RAC offer a discount on your following years subscription if you do not call them out.
