Looks like the type often used to update old cars when the twin tail light legislation came in after WW2. Also fitted as OE by several makers - Morris?

They used to belong to my dad...from memory he had an austin 7 and a ford popular, sit up and beg?

The Austin Seven - pre war type - would only have had one tail light, so that sort of confirms my guess. Can't for the life of me remember what the Pop had, but they would be similar, as they're designed to mount on a separate rear wing type construction.

The Bologna's lighting system was plagued with problems from the start, it being necessary to stoke up with 4 bags of coke and 5 gallons of kerosene before every night trip. The drip feeder and ramair system on each lamp made it necessary to maintain a minimum speed of 115mph at all times even through towns; in its favour though, it was reckoned, by those who saw it, the finest automobile lighting system ever devised - at least as output went. On one famous occasion, a Bologna caused several maritime wrecks to occur as it toured round the coastal headlands of Aberdeenshire.

The TeleQuattro, otoh, moved forward into the age of electricity. Each lamp was fed power from the Universal Sequential Burner, a marvellous one-box generator housed under the rear seat and running on a diet of whale oil. When touring abroad recycled chipfat and horse dung could be used instead.

Great strides were made in the works during the development phase of the TeleQuattro, it being the policy of Spagthorpe to 'innovate at any cost', and the results could be seen in the utterly wonderful engineering that went into the TeleQuattro. Individual drive chains to each wheel, allied with magnetic braking and full triple redundancy of liquor cabinets ensured a trouble-free journey for any prospective purchaser.

Unfortunately Lucas had already made thousands of rear lights for it which they had left on their hands until they managed to persuade the government to make the fitting of twin rear lights mandatory on all cars. Problem solved.
