Reversing Lights on Escorts

Feb 08, 2006 2 Replies

Hi guys,

Does anybody know what the laws are on reversing lights?

I have a 1974 MK1 Escort XL and I haven't got reversing lights on it and im not sure if there has ever been any on and so I would like to know if by law I need them for this model and age of car. (Just because there arent any on at the moment may not necessarily mean that there has never been any on.)

Cheers, Matt

Matt ( snipped-for-privacy@NOSPAMkeybm.com) gurgled happily, sounding much like they were saying :

Reversing lights have never been required, still aren't required, and aren't MOT testable even if they're fitted.

If they ARE fitted, then they must be white and come on only either automatically when reverse gear is selected or via a switch which must have a warning light.

If they're large and they're manually switched (such as an off-roader) be prepared for an argument over the tester's manual every year 8-(
