Trip through NO ?

Hey guys, looking for some information or insights from those of you who may live or have recently traveled through the gulf coast, especially New Orleans.

In a few weeks I am going to drive my C6 coupe from San Diego to FLA. I had intended to go through Houston to NO and on to FLA on the coast. But have been hearing from some other folks that roads are really bad and that there are little in the way of motels etc. left and that in some cities (Mobile and others) there are crime and police problems involving truckers and tourists driving through. Sounds a bit like the wild west and I am wondering if I am going to be a bigger target than normal if I show up in a flashy car with Ca. plates.

Any thoughts on the conditions, accomidations and route relating to driving a Vette?

Buying a lottery ticket is about the same as traveling now days, you take your chances on both.

Never travel in the NO area without a loaded, cocked ready to fire gun on the seat next to you..and NEVER NEVER tour any of the cemetaries.......don't worry about being caught with a loaded gun..worry about not having one...!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Better safe than dead.....Mississippi..don't stop any where just keep going and DO NOT SPEED>>>!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

What a crock! I live in Houston and have been to New Orleans five times this year, to the French Quarter and thereabouts. It's too much fun to miss, and the roads are fine. You will see lots of FEMA blue tarps still, as well as trailer villages, but then you aren't there to tour those anyway. If you're interested in seeing the Katrina devastation, Blue Line has a tour that will drive you through the 9th. ward and other spots. It would be a good drive and a great time. I'd plan on spending at least 2 days in the French Quarter if you have the time.
